Relaxation (Alpha 10 Hz)

A 10 Hz alpha binaural beat, in the band associated with relaxed-but-awake rest. Alpha dominates when the eyes close and cognition quiets. Good for post-work wind-down, NSDR (non-sleep deep rest), and short breaks.

What it is

Beat frequency: 10 Hz · Carrier: 300 Hz · Band: 8–13 Hz (Alpha) · relaxed focus / eyes-closed rest

Right in the middle of the alpha band. The 300 Hz carrier sits in a gentle mid-range that's neither bassy nor bright.

Why this frequency

Alpha is the resting-but-awake EEG signature — it increases when you close your eyes, and it's the band most often reported in 'wakeful meditation' states. Alpha binaural beats are the most consistently-reported-pleasant preset, even among skeptics. Good candidate for a short desk-break or NSDR session.

Relevant research: Garcia-Argibay et al., 2019 (Psychological Research).

Best for

  • short mid-day breaks
  • NSDR / yoga nidra
  • post-meeting recovery
  • eyes-closed rest

One honest caveat

Headphones required. The effect is subtle — don't expect magic.

How Loam uses binaural beats

Binaural beats work as a layer in Loam — you can pair one with any soundscape or with The Moment, at an independent volume, through headphones. They're not sold as a miracle cure. The honest position: some people find them helpful, the effects are subtle, and the real research base is narrower than the internet claims.

Try it in the Loam app

Relaxation (Alpha 10 Hz) is one of six binaural presets in the Sound Studio mixer. Download Loam to listen with headphones — they are required for the binaural effect to work.
