What it is
Beat frequency: 4 Hz · Carrier: 200 Hz · Band: 4–8 Hz (Theta) · meditation / creative states
A lower theta-range beat, carried at 200 Hz. Slightly brighter than the delta sleep preset — more reverie-friendly than sleep-friendly.
Why this frequency
Theta appears during REM, drowsiness, and deep meditation. Practitioners of lucid dreaming and hypnagogic journaling often pair binaural theta beats with intent-setting. Evidence is mostly anecdotal, but the theta-EEG/meditation relationship is well-documented.
Relevant research: Garcia-Argibay et al., 2019 (Psychological Research).
Best for
- hypnagogic reverie
- dream recall practice
- pre-sleep visualization
One honest caveat
Not for focus work — this is a drifty, low-arousal frequency. Headphones required.
How Loam uses binaural beats
Binaural beats work as a layer in Loam — you can pair one with any soundscape or with The Moment, at an independent volume, through headphones. They're not sold as a miracle cure. The honest position: some people find them helpful, the effects are subtle, and the real research base is narrower than the internet claims.
Try it in the Loam app
Dream (Theta 4 Hz) is one of six binaural presets in the Sound Studio mixer. Download Loam to listen with headphones — they are required for the binaural effect to work.
